Indigo in Buenos Aires: lunch at La Faraena and dinner at the Hyatt–Grant stays out all night – Dec 29, 2006
After yesterday’s adventure, it won’t surprise anyone to hear that we all slept late this morning. It is very hot today and people here have explained that one reason it is so warm in BA is that we are located right under the hole in the ozone layer. I don’t know if that is true but that’s what we have been told. Phil and I had lunch at La Faraena, a hotel near the marina. This is a rather quirky place with a farmhouse environment in the room where they serve lunch–and a very good lunch at that. This is a nice hotel but you wonder about that when you hear that the walls of the dining room where they serve dinner are covered with white unicorn heads. In fact, the whole room is white. There is a great swimming pool there and definitely worth a visit.
That night, about 8:30PM, Phil and I went to the Hotel Alvear for dinner. We had been there for lunch (see earlier entry) and liked it so much, we decided to try it again. We stopped in the bar and we both liked that area, even though the drinks were horridly expensive. There were many Americans in the bar and in the hotel and this is the place to be–until they discover the Hyatt. And in fact, we changed our minds about dinner and walked down to the Hyatt, which we have enjoyed several times for lunch. It is just our kind of place. People were still coming in when we left about 11PM, which still amazes me. There are definitely more people around at night than during the day.
Hugo and his wife had brought their children, Soledad and Damien, to the boat around 8:30PM and the kids were there when we came back home. Hugo and his wife had gone out to dinner and were coming back to pick up the kids around 1AM to take them to a club. Hugo stayed in the neighborhood after dropping them off (what a great guy he is!) and Grant got home about 7:30AM after they had all had breakfast. This is a great party place and needless to say, Grant was thrilled to have another all-night experience.
