Puerto Natales: Saturday – Mar 3, 2007

Today, the day of my friends’ departure, Toby, Geraldine and Tony flew on a scheduled flight to Base Frei, Antarctica, three hours each way, and returned reporting a fine time, including six hours walking about on the ice, much as the penguins.  They had a wonderful change of pace and certainly deserved it after having worked so hard to make the time my friends were here as enjoyable as it could be.  My Argentine Navy friends, just back from a trying month long voyage there that included rescuing one of their own ships come to grief on a rock, told me that I should plan to return another time in order to see some of the more beautiful parts of the Antarctic Peninsula that Base Frei cannot offer.  So I look forward to going another time.
