Itamaraca, Brazil – Aug 2, 2006
Well, we are still here at Itamaraca and we all agree it is one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. Phil and the boys and I set off on a tender wide around the island of Itamaraca and you know Phil, we had to go fast and we had to go all the way around, no matter how rough it was. It wasn’t like seasick rough or even slightly dangerous, but it was a lot of bouncing and hitting. But the coast was beautiful and we were glad we had done it.
Lunch today was on another little island right across from the boat. This one wasn’t even on the charts—though the charts are old—so we decided we better visit it before it was swept away or something. We had lunch on the beach again—same deal with the little thatched roof huts and the plastic table and chairs and the tiny little kitchens. We had fish again and all was very good—though nothing could be as good as yesterday’s feast. Lots of vendors here and no English. I haven’t seen an American yet though today we met a Swiss family—some English spoken here—who had three daughters (16, 14 and 13) so that was of some interest to the boys. After lunch, the boys took off swimming to the boat; it wasn’t far, but there was a strong current so I jumped in a small boat with some locals and we “rescued” them. I think Will could have made it, and Grant could have too eventually, but the rescue was fun too.
Then there was more jumping off the top of the boat and Captain Toby had to join in since Grant and Will dared him to do it. Then off to wake-boarding and Toby showed Grand and Will how to tow someone on the tender who was wake-boarding. They are having a great time here.
We had dinner with the crew on the aft deck and they had cooked meat slowly on the grill the South African way. We had four different marinades and several “sides” so we were all well-fed and happy. Another day in Paradise!
