Tortola and Virgin Gorda – May 11, 2006
After leaving San Juan, we made for the British Virgin Islands under clear skies and smooth seas, arriving at Soper’s Hole, a former pirate hangout Tortola. From there we cruised the Sir Francis Drake channel between Tortola and Virgin Gorda and dropped anchor for the night at the Bitter End Yacht Club.
Indigo has adopted a somewhat fast pace since leaving the DR. The long stay there put us behind in our plans to be out of the Caribbean by the start of hurricane season, so now we have to make up for the lost time. Our insurance company, Lloyd’s of London, has granted us worldwide cruising capability, but subject to the limitation that we exercise prudent judgment. A yacht whose owner allows it to remain in the bulls-eye of hurricane alley would be anything but prudent.
It’s off-season, so anchorages and marinas are not crowded, and the weather is nearly perfect as we wend our way through the Leeward and Windward Islands. Next stop Anguilla.
