Indigo in Buenos Aires: dinner with Esteban – Dec 27, 2006

This morning, Phil went off shopping with Hugo and came back with another Bettinelli painting and two sculptures, one bronze with patina and one marble.  They are just beautiful and I can’t wait for you art lovers to see them.  They fit perfectly on the counter between the dining room and the salon (the bronze one) and on the counter behind and to the side of the dining room table (the stone one).  Chef Geraldine and Captain Toby are off for two days to spend time with some friends.  So we are on our own for food (with help from Sahori) but it is not a problem.  We are glad for them to have a nice break.

Talking about food, Grant and I went to Rodizio, a restaurant on the waterway, for beef.  This restaurant is much like the ones we discovered in Brazil where they just keep bringing different cuts of meat on long swords to your table but I think the ones in Brazil have the whole thing down better than they do here.  Grant had slept until 2PM–becoming normal for him in BA–and was starved when he woke up so this was just perfect.  It was soon nap time but that is also becoming normal for all of us.

Tonight, we went to dinner with Esteban Caselli who had nicely flown in from Punte del Este just to have dinner with us.  Since he speaks no English, Esteban brought along a delightful guy as an interpreter, who had worked for Esteban when he was Argentine’s Ambassador to the Vatican and is now Chief of Protocol for the Argentine Foreign Ministry.  They came to the boat first around 8PM and we enjoyed cocktails and light snacks and then we went to Esteban’s favorite restaurant (El Mirasol) which immediately became mine.  I really think this was the best food we have had here at a restaurant yet, and if you go to BA, you definitely have to go there.  Another special night in a special city.
