Bed Time Muzz sounds like, what? A libidinous sport perhaps or another term for extreme bed head. Instead, the words are the names of the three best night spots in Noumea, each in turn frequented by the crew of Indigo and its owner. Bed bar is the most cleverly named, as in “Want to go to Bed with me?” and the newest of the lot. Its semi-outdoor, pure white cocktail lounge is the tres chic, oh so hip place for the hyper cool to see and be seen. Owned by Manolo, Alice, Denise and Jean-Phillipe, it is the place where we spent most of our evening hours, the crew staying till the place closed at 5am, yours truly exhibiting his customary sound judgment retired a touch earlier.
Time Bar is owned by Gilbert, a French expat, his wife Lydia from Portugal, and their daughter, Muriel. It too is a fine and hip spot for passing the night hours. Gilbert and company took exceptional care of our needs. One sultry day before we departed Gilbert and Lydia took me to their golf club for 18 soggy holes. They thoughtfully brought along for me a charming caddy, a young lady of Cambodian, Chinese whatever descent who drove the golf cart. Poor thing had never set foot on a golf course before and so was quite unlike any caddy I had ever had before though a vast improvement on all her predecessors. I will have to speak to the management at Secession Golf Club about a revision to our caddy policy.
