Punta Arenas: Monday – Feb 19, 2007
Phil: Kitty has now departed from Punta Arenas, and I’m awaiting the arrival on February 24 of Jack Burnell, Steve Halverson and Peter Rummell for a week of cruising the Chilean archipelago to Puerto Natales. Captain Toby and crew have been hard at work taking on provisions, making repairs, and getting Indigo in fine nick (a South African/British word meaning top condition). They also take some well-deserved time off.
During these few days, and with Rick Judge also gone and my new friends on the Argentine Navy ship Castillo already at work in Antarctica, I am free to wander about the vicinity, which I do. Trouble is there isn’t much to see here. We’ve been spoiled by the surprisingly wonderful little town of Ushuaia. Still I walk the streets, visit the pubs and restaurants, and make a half-hearted attempt at a local disco–they open at 1AM and close about 7AM!
