Ushuaia: Sunday – Feb 4, 2007
It’s another beautiful day in Ushuaia: sunny and actually warm with no wind. It was a perfect day for a plane ride so Phil, Rick and I took a one-hour ride in a four-seater Piper all around Ushuaia and the surrounding spaces, including Puerto Williams. The mountains around here are craggy and rugged and there are several lakes, one of which is 60 miles long. We flew by a penguin rookery and learned that Puerto Williams is only about a 12 minute plane ride from Ushuaia–takes much longer by boat!
We returned to a wonderful lunch about 2PM at Tante Nina’s, which has developed into our favorite restaurant here, and I had trout and Phil and Rick had salmon. Phil and I got back to the boat about 4:30PM but Rick decided to take the ski lift up the mountain. He then walked straight up the mountain to see one of the glaciers; he said it was a really steep walk. He then walked back down to the lift and had a couple of beers–sounds like a great idea.
Phil and Rick went to dinner at the Dublin pub about 10PM–another favorite place. Neither one of them likes pizza but the Dublin pub has the best pizza I have ever eaten and they tried one with tomato sauce, ham, mozzarella cheese, blue cheese and green onions on a thin crust. They just loved it! Rick is leaving tomorrow and we will really miss him but work back home is calling his name.
